Several years of data......

and I'd like to "peel off" each year into a separate file....

How can I do that? I tried year end copy - set the dates, and it blew up my original data file.

Thanks in advance.

The first advice from most in this group is don't bother "peeling off" data.

However, if you still want to, you've found the right way. Try validating before you do another, and, of course, do a backup firs.

Hi, Grover.

Rather than repeat what has been said here so often before, let me suggest that you skim through previous messages here, or search the archives for "archives" and similar words or phrases.

The short answer is that most of us prefer to be able to look back to 2003 - or was it 2001? - instantaneously, rather than trying to find and reload the older files. For example, my current file goes back to 1990 and I can quickly tell you now that I bought my latest TV on October 12, 2001, for $302.02, including tax. Want to know where? If I had "peeled off" each year, I would still be looking for the information. Heck, I'd still be looking for where I put that year's file! Now, which year was it???

Of course, it's not a bad idea to keep a backup of the file at least once a year, and a permanent copy at each year-end is a very good idea.
