Archiving & Condensing Data

Version 2006 uses a new database engine that is made to handle larger file sizes. This version can eat 94 Mb files for breakfast and still have pleanty of room for a large lunch and diner plus snacks.

Allan, Thanks for the tip, but how does that solve my problem of getting rid of prior year information and shrinking the size of my data file?

Thanks Charlie

OK, I have to say that this is either getting rediculous or I am doing something wrong.

I recently posted that I have tried everything I can think of to archive

2004 & 2005 data so I can reduce my 90+ meg file size to something more manageable. I currently have the 2005 Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale edition (5 user)

Someone replied to me that Inventory was the problem and that it didn't work in older versions and that they have improved this is the 2006 version. So... I got a copy of a demo off of my accountant to try version 2006 with its new "Clean Up Company Data..."

After backing up and running the Clean Up with the date 12/31/2005 I received a message that everything is archived and that I could access the data by opening the Archive {Company Name} file.

When I opened the folder I indeed have the original company file and the new archive file.

The original company file size is 94.09 MB, The Archive Copy is 93.99 MB BOTH FILES PRODUCE THE SAME RESULTS I can find all the invoices in either file INCLUDING 2006 it's almost like the damn file was copied. What on earth is going on with this? I'm afraid my company file is going to grow too large to manage. Does anyone have a solution for this? Any input is greatly appreciated. I am completely at a loss on this. I keep feeling like I'm either missing something or just do not understand what this is supposedly doing.

Thanks

Charlie

Intuit changed the database engine so future versions will be able to go where prior versions could not. Perhaps future versions will have better data removal features when it comes to inventory. Are all transactions complete as at 12/31/2005? This includes receipt of monies and bank reconcilation.

Yes they are and I've tried checking all the boxes in the options for "To Be Printed" etc. and tried without checking any. I did notice however that the General Journal entries are being created. This apparently has to do with anything handling Inventory Items (Invoices, Bills, etc) Because I can run side by side with an Cleaned Up data file and my normal data file and when I pull up lists of Invoices or Bills for 2004 they are identical and contain all the same information when I click on them.

Thanks

Charlie
