Stock Quotes not downloading - all else is fine

IF this is a repeat I apologize. I've checked dejanews and Intuit's help site with no luck.

My Q05 R3 works fine now that I've moved everything over to a new computer except for one problem...my stock quotes will not download nor the price histories. Internet connection set up is fine and my bill paying functions work fine as do internet access within Q05. Tried it with a backup from last month (before the new computer) and same problem. My updated quotes just will not download. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt this is a Q2005 problem. Have you checked to see that you have selected the securities in the One Step Update "Select quotes to download" list. (Historical prices are *selected* during the Download Historical Prices dialog).

Thanks for your reply. Let's see...under One Step Update "Download quotes..." is checked then under the "Select Quotes to download screen there are only three choices: 1>Quicken Usage Study (checked); 2> One Step Update; only "Remind me...when exiting Quicken..." is checked other "startup" option is not; 3> Quicken.com login, "Change my Quicken.com member..." is not checked. Those are the only options.

For the Historical Price download screen the appropriate stocks are checked for download, still no joy.

Sound right?

What about a Firewall issue? If I get Internet access at all the firewall isn't a problem, right? Or, should I put Quicken (qw.exe?) in the Exceptions tab?

Thanks again for your help.

Ok, I admit it; I'm an idiot. I just found the problem. I "assumed" (ass_me) that my Portfolio screen was as it usually is but NO under the "Show" box the wrong selection for what I wanted was selected. Moved the selection to "Price..." and Hidey-Ho here we go! This new P4 3.2G computer with DSL downloads so fast I thought it wasn't doing anything.

Thanks everyone...I'm ready for my sign.

I see you found the cause of your problem; just wanted to clarify my point.

When you start a One Step Update, you first enter your password. Then you see a dialog box with a title of "One Step Update", whose second line says "Check the items you would like to update and enter your pins". Below that (on the right) is a blue "link" saying "Select quotes to download": clicking that will take you to the list of quotes, and only the securities checked in that list will get quotes.

Ok, I understood that part and all of my stocks and indexes were/are checked.

As it turns out my quotes are NOT coming down... There is a problem with my Q05 being able to talk to Quicken.com. I suspect something happened in moving the files from old 'puter to new 'puter but I'm not sure where to start....maybe back at old 'puter. I feel fairly certain it is a file corruption problem but I've been through all the screens....I dunno.

And we press on...

Thank you.

I do seem to recall that you must register with Quicken.com to be able to download, but quotes don't come from Quicken.com; you do not need to connect to Quicken.com to get quotes (and you can tell One Step Update not to attempt to go to Quicken.com ... at the bottom of the One Step Update dialog). In fact, you can initiate the downloading of current prices and historical prices without using One Step Update at all.

Investing > Security Detail View > Update > Download Quotes

To get an idea about the condition of your converted file you can approach from two directions.

1.) Create a "New" Quicken file; enter a couple of your securities (Securities List); then try a Quote download. You could even setup one of the accounts you normally download with One Step Update, the try a One Step Update in the new file. 2.) Backup, then Validate (and possibly super-Validate) your regular Q2005 fileset.

Only QWRS.DAT file I could find on either 'puter was in QUICKENOLD folder on the old one. Now QUICKENW folder on either machine. When I copied over the QWRS.DAT file to the new 'puter it made no difference.

I guess it's time for Intuit's online support chat...
