stock split

I am using Quicken 2008 and have had no problems with it until now, and I do not know if these is a problem with the program or something that I am doing wrong. I have IE 7.

I use one step update daily to update seven brokerage accounts. Two of the accounts are not supported by Quicken, so I have to add new transactions manually, which is not much of a problem as there is not much trading done in those particular accounts. I am trying to add a 2 for 1 stock split which took place last month in one of these accounts, but I cannot get the number of shares to change. Help indicates that 2 should be put for new shares and 1 for old shares on the transaction form, but that does not change the total of shares in the portfolio. I have also tried putting the actual number of new shares and old shares shares in the transaction window, but there is still no change in the total number of shares.

How can I fix this?

Thanks. Caryl

The first thing to do is to note whether the number of shares Quicken currently shows you holding is the number of shares from before the split or from after the split.

Downloading (quotes) usually downloads splits: the split may already have been applied to your holdings.

Thanks for your help, John.

The shares showing are the number of shares from before the split.

However, this morning when I did one step update I got a window asking me if I wanted to replace the stock split transaction that I had added with the date of May 23 with one for May 27. It is the first time I recall having any information about this stock pop up. I made the replacement and the number of shares doubled. So all is okay now.
