Using _underscore categories in Quicken

In another thread, someone suggested that I use the category _HSAEmployerContrib. Judging by the name, this category is simply perfect for my needs.

Except, underscore. I understand that the _categories have special properties in Quicken (taxation, etc.) and should not be altered or removed.

Is it bad form to use such categories unaltered? I have never done so before. I find it confusing that there is a category intInc that Quicken frequently suggests, and I frequently use. There is also a category _intInc. What's up with that?

I suspect that the _HSAEmployerContrib category that was referenced is one that Sherlock created ... because I can't find it in my QW2017 R3.

There's no prohibition, that I'm aware of, in creating one of those _categories ... but there's also no benefit vs. not using the underscore.

And, you're correct. They can't be removed or changed. They CAN, however, be hidden.

I modeled the category based on the 401(k) employer contribution category Quicken does provide.

There is an impact to using an underscore prefix for hidden categories in the sorting of categories by name I find is beneficial.
