I have a Vanguard brokerage account whose main function is to hold dividend-paying investments, accumulate the cash dividends, and sweep them in a money-market fund. When this fund becomes large enough, I either buy a new dividend-paying stock or use the cash for something else. Typically, transactions look something like:
Cash Trans Cash bal MM shares 0.00
5/1 Dividend stock 1 + 75.00 75.00 0.00 5/1 Dividend stock 2 + 100.00 175.00 0.00 5/1 Buy MM fund -175.00 0.00 175.00 5/15 Dividend stock 3 + 50.00 50.00 175.00 5/15 Buy MM fund - 50.00 0.00 225.00 But what I get back from Vanguard after the Quicken update looks more likeCash Trans Cash bal MM shares 0.00
5/1 Dividend stock 1 + 75.00 75.00 0.00 5/1 Dividend stock 2 + 100.00 175.00 0.00 5/1 Withdraw -175.00 0.00 0.00 5/15 Dividend stock 3 + 50.00 50.00 0.00 5/15 Withdraw - 50.00 0.00 0.00 5/15 Placeholder Entry 0.00 225.00So they put in "Withdraw" transactions which do not effect the balance of MM shares, and at the end of the month Quicken "corrects" the MM share balance with a placeholder entry.
I would like to get from the second transaction list beck to the first, which is more realistic. I have two questions about this:
(1) is there a setting I have neglected that would cause the update to give me entries more like the first set instead of the second set?
(2) What is the easiest way to modify the update in order to accomplish my objective?[e.g., is there a short way to modify the "Withdraw" transactions so they wind up being "Buy" transactions?]
