wish there were an undo ......

Found this from Quicken support: ................... Can I undo accepting a transaction?

You can undo only the action of accepting multiple transactions (for example, if you clicked Accept All but later changed your mind). To do this, click Undo Accept All (you may need to first open the Downloaded Transactions area if it has been minimized; click the double arrow icon below the balance area of your register to do this). Undo Accept All transactions is available until you close Quicken or download additional transactions into the account in question. You cannot use Undo Accept All with: Transactions that have been accepted individually. Compare to register for online payments. Compare to register for investment accounts. ....................... Did not know "any" undo was possible.

You can also undo the delete of most non-investment transactions* ... if you complete the undo before certain other Quicken activities (such as deleting another transaction or exiting Quicken).

The only way I've found to Undo most mistakes in Quicken is to Restore my latest backup. Many years ago, my computer was so unreliable and prone to BSODs and other random restarts that I formed the habit of FREQUENT backups - after almost every transaction entered. Each backup took a minute or two with those slow disk operations then, but I still saved myself from disaster many times.

Today's drives and other components are quite reliable and backups take only a few seconds, but old habits die hard and I still backup frequently when entering transactions and after downloads. So if I hit a wrong key while entering the current transaction, I can usually restore a backup that is only a few minutes old - more importantly, only a transaction or two ago. Not talking about simple spelling typos here, but things like pressing

But, yes, an Undo function in Quicken would be appreciated!

I agree. I have suspected for a long time that Quicken files are direct access, unlike other programs that make a temporary or scratch copy that you work on until you (auto)save it. Direct access only files seem like a holdover from the mainframe days.

I don't think 'mainframe days' has anything to do with this. (And in fact, with mainframes, the concept of commits to write and allowing roll backs for unhardended data changes in databases like IMS and DB2 is well established and still lives on quite well in mainframes). Rather, I would think it's just that the developers of Quicken simply didn't put logic into their program to create an undo function; simple as that. That would require additional coding to keep track of the original changed data and providing the needed rollback function. Not the hardest thing in the world to do, but apparently not found necessary. (btw, I too wish they had it.)
