yet another Mac Quicken 2007 problem

A new Mac Quicken 2007 problem.

After getting the Checking Account to reconcile for

1/1/2007-present, I found that register transfers to the [Visa] and [MasterCard] accounts had mostly worked, but not for the latest transaction.

Long (sorry but details may be necessary) explanation:

In 11/2007 I set up automatic downloads from my bank for my checking account. A month ago (before all the checking reconcile problems I posted about here in the last week), I set up Visa accounts and MasterCard accounts. The categories in the checking account for checks written for these cards is [Visa] and [MasterCard], so those check amounts get credited to the card accounts, again, all except the latest month, which got downloaded after I did, undid, fixed, redid reconciliation of the checking account.

Today I set about itemizing the charges in the [Visa] account, and soon noticed that the last check I wrote wasn't acutally missing, but it was there as 0.00, not the non-zero amount that is there in the Checking account. (in the card account, the category is [Checking] just like the non-zero (correct ones) previous to it.

How in the world can it show non-zero in Checking and appear zero in the credit card account? Then I looked at the Visa account, same thing for the latest transaction!

So, all are okay from 11/2007 to the payments downloaded this month. It didn't start with the downloading because I started that in 11/07. The 1/1/07-11/07 checking transaction entries I pulled in with a qif import are there and correct.

It did start after I had reconciled the checking account for the first time (about 11/1/08). I had looked at the transfers into the credit card accounts, and it looked reasonable, but I would likely have overlooked that the last one wasn't there yet but was in the Checking account, so I can't really specifiy all the boundary conditions on how/when it failed.

But the latest Visa and MasterCard downloaded from the bank appear correctly in Checking, but 0.00 in the credit card accounts.

I don't know what will happen with future downloads, and I can't test it because these come from the bank. Unless I delete them everywhere in my file (Checking and Credit card accounts), and see if they are downloaded again, and correctly, or not. Very dangerous I think. I'd have to re-reconcile the whole shebang again after editing them out of the Checking account (long horrid story). I really don't want to do that. And it may somehow mess up the downloads from the bank end, which I'd rather not risk.

I can add bogus deposits, not touching the 0.00 ones in the credit accounts and then itemize what the money was spent on (as the ones previous), but this is unsatisfactory for a purist, and I may have to do this every month from now on? But it seems to be my only option, short of dumping Quicken for another product. (I'd be happy to hear about other financial Mac products from anyone, I'm so far little impressed with Quicken,... and am actively steering friends, relatives, associates, meeting groups, away from it).

Anyway, any suggestions on how to clean this mess up?

Thanks!
