2/15 for 1099s??

Hello,

I've been told by Fidelity Investments that for 2009 they have until

2/15/10 to get their 1099s in the mail. Fidelity said that the IRS has given the industry the extra 2 weeks because last year there were a lot of problems (dividends being re-characterized??) associated with the 1/31 deadline.

The Fidelity rep. didn't know if this change was only for this year or was permanent. Can anyone verify any of the above?

BTW, I'm not complaining. I think it's a good idea.

Thanks.

Instructions for Form 1099-B (2009): "The due date for furnishing statements to recipients has been changed to February 15 for statements due after 2008. For details, see the 2009 General Instructions [...]."

General Instructions for Forms 1099 [et al] (2009): "Forms 1099-B [...] must be furnished by February 16, 2010."

Also check their website. They posted my tax statements in electronic form two weeks before I received them in the mail.
