California HOA did not file form 3500 for exemption

What options does a California HOA have if it has been filing 1120-H for the last 5 years but did not file for a California exemption on form 3500 or 3500A?

It looks like if you want to file a 1120-H you just have to get an EIN number and file 1120-H. This HOA is not a 501(c)(3).

asks for aCalifornia corporation number. The HOA does not have one. How do getone? Someone I called at the FTB said to just file form 3500 and theywill assign a number to the HOA. Each year, the only income are HOA dues and interest. Interest is between $300 and $500 a year.

Is it possible for the HOA to file form FTB 3500 retroactively and CA form 100 tax returns for the last 5 years? Federal tax returns beyond
