California Webpay

A client had to pay more than the threshold to be required to make subsequent payments electronically. The client is having problems registering for the Webpay system and wants to mail a check instead. Are there any penalties to doing this?

The client emailed me last night to let me know that she called the FTB and was able to pay over the phone.

No wonder California is in financial straits. The state makes it difficult for taxpayers to pay their taxes.

As long as we're listing annoyances with the CA tax collection system, I'm baffled why the online system for verifying estimated payments for business entities is only available on weekdays (individual estimated payments and withholding can be checked online 7 days/week).

It is not a computer - it is a guy behind a curtain, rummaging through paper files and sending you a response.
