I'm a Canadian citizen working in the US. I'm not a US citizen or lawful permanent resident. I have been paying taxes to the IRS through automatic payroll witholding. I also have investments in a US brokerage account. This account holds a fund that is exempt from both federal and state tax. If I were to go back to Canada, would I be subject to some sort of IRS witholding if I were to transfer the funds to a Canadian account? I heard that the IRS may tax an individual 20% for nonresidents. I hope someone can give me answer, please help! Thanks!
