Form W-4

Jan 26, 2008 1 Replies

The 2008 edition of Circular E stayes that an employer cannot accept substitute Forms W-4 developed by employees after 10/10/07. What's that all about?

There use to be three versions of a W-4. The IRS official version, an employer substitute containing the same language but slightly different to accommodate business needs, and an employee developed form that the employer could or could not accept. Starting 10/11/07, employee created W-4s were no longer acceptable.
