Here's the situation:
Client lived out of the country for seven years and didn't file any tax returns during that time (2003-2009) Client has repatriated back to the USA Client wants to get caught up on return filing, wants to buy a home, and bank needs an IRS transcript Client owes no taxes because of foreign income exclusion
I just filed their 2009 return three days ago. I will file their 2008 and earlier returns very soon. So far they owe nothing and are due to receive refunds because of Making Work Pay and Recovery Rebate Credits. They might owe a little bit of self-employment tax in 2007 because of a little bit of self-employment income in 2007, but all other years just had wage income and the foreign income exclusion wipes it all out.
Client is more concerned over getting a transcript than he is about getting these refunds. How long until these returns get processed and he can request a transcript from the IRS?
Thanks.
