Any info on why Pub 590 has not yet been updated for 2006?

Sunspots. I notice the 2005 version didn't come out until March 2006. However, everything you need for 2006 is in the

2005 version. Check the What's New section at the beginning for the 2006 changes.

My guess - cause it has to cover Qualified Charitable Deductions which came into being in August retroactive to the beginning of the year.

Dunno. I also have been interested in this pub. Most probably, it's related to the late Congressional passage of tax legislation, which also delayed so many other tax documents. I have the irs.gov site link for pubs bookmarked, and keep checking every few days. Just went there, and they're still showing the 2005 edition. Bill

Well, probably because there's nothing new, you reckon? Unless they decided to omit the paragraph about photos of missing children. (grin) ChEAr$, Harlan Lunsford, EA n LA

2006 pub 590 is available at the IRS web site.

Thanks. Does anyone know, or have they also published a list of changes so we don't have to compare the 2006 line for line with the 2005 to see what they changed?

As in most IRS publications, one of the introductory items is, "What's new for 2007?" -- which should give you a quick insight into most significant changes. I tried to access it and copy it for you at:

.. but unfortunately, the 2006 edition is currently only available in pdf ... so you'll have to download a big file to read those few paragraphs -- until they offer it in html, for on-line sampling. Bill

I knew that! -- Shame on me
