Is it on a transcript?

Someone failed to file returns for a number of years, and lost the

1099s and W-2s sent during that time. Is it possible to get that information from the IRS? It doesn't look like a transcript would have anything that's not on a return. So if a return is not filed, what then?

Thanks.

There are different kinds of IRS transcripts. The W-2 and

1099 information is on a Wage and Income Transcript, not on a Tax Return Transcript. But the Wage and Income Transcript does not include the state information, such as state tax withheld or, on a W-2, state wages.

You can get complete copies of the W-2s from the Social Security Administration, but you have to pay for them if you are not requesting them for a Social Security-related reason. Go to the following link on the Social Security web site for details.
