Tax ID number question

Feb 06, 2015 2 Replies

I have a tax ID (EIN) on my personal name that I have had for many many years which I do not use.

I would like to use it now for a partnership with my husband (and issue K-1s). Can I use this tax ID #?

If no, is there a way get a new one for the partnership very quickly?

Please let me know.

Thank you very much in advance for all your answers.

No.

No, you can't. But just to ask an obvious question, why do you want to run the business as a partnership? Most married couples file jointly, in which case it all ends up on the same return anyway.

The IRS web site someone else pointed to will let you fill out a form in your browser and issue the EIN on the spot.
