Tax software version to keep?

I'm an eary adopter -- I usually download new versions of software as soon as I learn they exist. Since I use TurboTax and tend to file pretty close to the due date, there are sometimes updates released after I have filed.

Normally, I ignore them and keep the version I used to file with.

Does that seem like the way to go, or should I download patches so I end up with the latest and greatest?

Are you filing an amended return, or preparing new returns for others? Are you using last year's tax software to plan this year's taxes? If so, then get the latest version. Ideally, you would be able to "roll back" (re-install base version and roll forward) to each specific version that was used to create and file a production return, if necessary.

That is not practicle with Turbotax. Automatic patches are sometimes released weekly.
