Trying to E-file IRS automated system telling me I don't need a PIN to enter 0 for my prior year AGI...??

So far my first attempt at E-filing through FreeTaxUSA has been a pain. It got rejected using my prior year AGI - despite using the number given to me by the IRS - so I thought I'd try using a PIN. Went through the automated process at the IRS - DOB, SSN, filing status, at the end of which it tells me because of my status I don't need a PIN just use 0 as my prior year AGI.

??...After all the song and dance about getting the prior year AGI correct I can enter 0?

Does this sound plausible? The customer service person at the IRS didn't know. Does this sound like a glitch in the automated system or could it be correct?

Thanks for all input
