TurboTax 2006

Has anyone here bought the Deluxe version of TurboTax 2006 yet? I've used it for years, and I heard that it's still usable for self-employed people. But the chart on the box for deciding which kind to get is not very clear. Is the "extra help" included on the Home & Business edition really worth the extra money or can I confidently buy the Deluxe and carry on as in previous years? Moderator: Someone will give you directions to the Turbotax newsgroup.

I don't know of any Usenet group devoted to Turbotax, but TurboTax issues are often discussed in alt.comp.software.financial.quicken. There is also a users forum at

There may be a Yahoo Group devoted to TurboTax, but I stopped using it back in 2002 and moved to TaxAct.

As for the "extra help" it all depends upon how much help you need. Intuit wants to sell you the more expensive version. However, if the Deluxe version has all the forms you need, and I believe it does, then it can be used to file Schedules C and SE along with your 1040.

Thanks, but I searched and found no TurboTax newsgroup. I posted my question on misc.taxes--maybe someone there can help.

Try alt.comp.software.financial.quicken (brought to you by those nice people at Intuit who also bring you TurboTax) - you'll find occasional posts there asking about different TurboTax versions/features.

is probably the best place to get answers aboutTurboTax.

Deluxe is essentially the same as in previous years for Schedule C. If you have been satisfied with it in the past, you should find it equally satisfactory this year.

The following links may give you more detail than what is on the box about the additional guidance in Home & Business.

You could also try out the Home & Business interview online and see for yourself whether the extra detail is worth the cost. You don't have to pay for the online version unless you print or e-file. Bob Sandler
