Quicken/TurboTax/Symantec Rebates

Yesterday I purchased TurboTax 2006 at Staples, and also picked up Quicken

2006 Deluxe for $29.99 with $30 rebate, and Norton AntiVirus 2006 for $40 with $20 rebate + $20 rebate for previous owners.

The problem is: The coupon for the Norton Upgrade rebate requires submission of "...original Proof of Purchase from Norton AntiVirus 2006 for Windows. Proof of purchase is located on the top inside flap of box...." However, the flaps at the top of the box (and the bottom) are BLANK and do not contain the usual "Proof of Purchase" phrase or any other unique markings. (Also required is proof of purchase of other qualifying software, but that is no problem.)

Has anyone else encountered this situation, and if so, how was it resolved? Any suggestions??

TIA.

I'd try going to Staples and see if you can get the package replaced. Hope you haven't sent in the other rebate yet. That will make it difficult........

Going back to Staples is a good idea.

FWIW, in our "package" (TTax, Qkn and the shredder) the software boxes did not have the UPC printed on the carton. Rather, the UPC was on labels stuck on the bottom/top flap.

When I bought Quicken and TurboTax at Staples last week, they printed off additional receipts, one for each rebate. Each one contained a number which identified the particular rebate offer and another number which was unique for my purchase. I went on line (directions were on the receipt) and entered those 2 numbers. The next day I got an email saying "we're processing your rebates". No need to mail anything in.

(BTW I filed one rebate for $30 for buying TTax Deluxe & Q2006 Deluxe and another for $20 for buying Q2006. Net cost was TTax & Quicken for $10.)

That's fine, but it won't work for the Norton stuff because those have to be mailed in.

Also given that Turbotax Deluxe (w/state) was $40 and Quicken Deluxe $30, I don't see how the extra $20 would bring the net price down to $10. It should be $20.

Have you done Norton rebates before, i.e., do you know exactly what you are looking for? The proof of purchase would be on the tab (left or right) of the box -- it is not on the wide flap). It will be a small black circle with writing in it.

It's always possible that Symantec made a mistake with your box. You should take it back to Staples and I'm sure they will replace it if necessary.

Yes, I HAVE done Norton rebates before, and I know the difference between UPC bar codes and Proof of Purchase tabs under box tops ;-). The two tabs at the top are blank on both sides; one tab at the bottom is blank, while the other tab has a recycle icon on it. (The UPC bar code was required for the rebate for purchasing NAV; the Proof of Purchase tab was required for the rebate for upgrading from an older version of similar software.)

I will go back to Staples with the box in question and see what happens. But there is no way they can verify if a box is correctly printed without removing the plastic wrap and the seal which keeps the box tops closed.

In the meantime, thanks to all who replied with suggestions.
