IndyMac bank direct download setup

I just opened a CD account with IndyMac Bank. In setting up for direct download, it appears as if I must have a login and password apart from my IndyMac web site password. The Quicken setup process even gives me the Indymac phone number to call. I called twice, got two different representatives, and got no help. The 2nd rep told me to call

1-800-811-8766, which is a phone number for Intuit. I am using direct download for over a dozen accounts. The process works just great, and I have NEVER needed to call Intuit for anything in life.

If anyone reading this newsgroup has set up IndyMac Bank, could you kindly tell me what I need to do? Thanks!

There web page says the following "View transaction activity for checking, savings and money market accounts". It also states "Review account summaries for your certificates of deposit".

Quicken downloads transaction history and form the way there web page is worded they dont show transaction history for CD's.

I have CD's at Citibank and HSBC while both support direct Quicken downloading of Checking, Savings and Money Market accounts neither support direct download of CD's. I think it has something to do with the fact Quicken requires you setup CD's as investment accounts and banks dont download investment info.

When I try to do the Quicken online setup, starting with New Account, I never even get to the point where I tell the software what type of account it is. The first screen advises me that I need to obtain a login and password that is different from my web password for the bank. If I try to simply use my web login information, it tells me something like all account number have already been set up. I cannot get to the next portion of the setup.

That is because CD information is not downloaded at all. If you had a checking account with them it would add the checking account. Direct download accounts will not ask you for the account type you have but will setup the account for you automatically. This is true for all my credit cards, bank accounts and investment accounts.

You say you have over 10 account that do support direct download. Try adding a new account at a bank you already have set up all your account and it will return the error like all account number have already been set up. So more or less you answered your question already and Indymac does not support direct connection of CD as your login info is correct.

OK, I understand. In reality, it isn't going to be crucial, as activity will be minimal. I shopped CD rates at bankrate.com and found IndyMac Bank. They have one of the highest rates in the US, so I bought a CD. Interest is payable at the end of the term, and that will be the only activity. I think I can manage to make one entry manually.

Quicken does not require that CD's be setup as investment accounts. There is nothing preventing fi's from downloading CD transactions ... except their own choice. I had several CD's with USAA, I set each CD up as a separate Quicken savings account and USAA sent the CD transactions in my One Step Update downloads along with my other checking and savings account transactions from USAA.

Ok Quicken recommends setting up CD in an investment account according to the help file. I guess you can set up a credit card as a checking account too but most people wont.

I guess a bank could setup a CD as savings account and download the interest payment monthly like John Pollard said.
