TurboTax imports from Quicken

I'm importing some dividends entered into Quicken 2005 into TurboTax, and when the import is done, it will not list each dividend individually as in past years... it just totals them all up and gives them the name of the account not the name of the security.

Anyone know if that is right?

My approach is to be sure TTax matches with the the Form 1099[s] - the

1099 figures are what is reported to the IRS.

Typically [in my experience] a 1099 from a broker totals the dividends and that is how I report it. If you hold dividend paying securities outside of a brokerage firm you should receive a 1099 from each payor - and that is how I would report it.

Hmm... I've never filed that way before but maybe it's ok. We had about 20 entries that we entered manually. Maybe next year we'll try it your way. Turbo Tax filed them detailed out in prior years though.

I believe there is a worksheet where they are listed individually. It doesn't matter unless your return is audited.

Had an experience with TTax and the IRS about 10 years ago that altered my way of filing. Had been filing with each security listed and the corresponding dividends for each. For this particular year I had changed brokers in mid-year [simply transfered securities] so had two

1099's that year - with individual securities dividend payments spread across the 2 1099's. My totals were ok but IRS had difficulty resolving between the figures reported on my Sched B and the figures reported on the 1099's [I too had a little difficulty resolving]. Received one of those ominus inquiries from the IRS requesting clarification of my Sched B/1099 info.

I wound up revising and re-submitting the Sched B to match the 1099's. Didn't cost me anything - other than time, postage and a little anxiety!!

Now always file listing the broker as payor - with the totals as the broker reports. This is essentially what QW/TTax is doing. For documentation purposes, I usually go into TTax [Forms View] and enter the individual security data in the 'Supporting Details' forms.
