importing Excel data into Quicken address book

Specs: XP Pro SP2, Quicken 2007 Deluxe.....................

I'm trying to import addresses (contact info) from Excel into the Address book of Quicken 2007 Deluxe. It states clearly in Help and online that this feature is available with the Deluxe version. Everything else in Quicken works fine.

I'm trying to do this by following the instructions in Help and on the Intuit website (which are the same). They state: All of the following steps are done from within Quicken. Step 1 will open the Address Book, but go back to Quicken to do step 2.

1.. Choose Tools menu > Address Book. 2.. Choose File menu > Import > Addresses. 3.. Choose whether the file is comma or tab delimited, enter the name of the file you want to import (click Browse to search for it), and then click Next. 4.. Select the fields you want to import. Quicken performs the mapping between your imported address fields and the appropriate Address Book fields. This mapping is shown in the list under Mapping, with the Address Book value on the left and the imported field on the right. If you want to remove a field, select it and click Remove. If you want to add it back, select it from the Fields to be Imported list and click Add. 5.. Click Done.

Step 1 of this works fine. I can do whatever I like in Address Book.

Step 2 doesn't work. When I follow this procedure I get the following Import options;

Turbo Tax Web Connect File Qif File

Addresses is not an option.

All suggestions on this are appreciated as I'm not going to manually enter

300 contacts.

Thanks everyone!

Bob:

In my Quicken 2007 H&B:

  1. File > Import > Addresses opens up a "Import Address Records" window.

I can then choose whether to import a comma or tab delimited file.

Perhaps you should export your Excel data to a csv or tsv first, and then import that file.

This is what mine should do as well. The problem is the Import Address Records option is not there. I'm wondering if it's not available in my version even though all the documentation states clearly that it is.

This is the heading for the help entry for this:

How do I import contact information? (Quicken Deluxe, Premier, or Home & Business)

How would exporting to a csv file help? I would still need the address book option...correct?

Thanks

Prior to Q2007, you had to have the H&B version of Quicken to import addresses. Either the Q2007 Help is wrong or the import capability didn't get added correctly to Q2007. I suggest you submit a report in the Product Feedback forum in the Intuit/Quicken forums.

Aha, I get it.

You don't even have the option of "Import Addresses."

Maybe that is only an option with the Home & Business version of Quicken

2007.

I might consider calling Intuit and determine if Q2007 Deluxe is supposed to have that feature.

If it was supposed to, but got disabled before final release, maybe Intuit can replace your copy with H&B.

At least worth a try.
