What address to use?

Oct 02, 2012 2 Replies

I am living separately from my wife in an independent living facility because living at my home is no longer feasible. There is no present intent of divorce or legal separation. We wish to file jointly. My wife can still get along by herself in our home and can receive official mail. I also have an address and will carry out most of the tax return effort.

  1. Is there an IRS problem with that?

  1. What address should be used on the form?

Nope.

Use the address of the first person listed on the return.

I'd suggest using the most permanent address as possible, which should be the home address. You may take a notion to locate to a different facility, but the home is still there.
