Planning for assisted living

If one is in an assisted living facility and self paying, then after the 5 year look-back period runs out of money and is not ready for a nursing home, who then pays for the assisted living to continue?

If the person is ready for a nursing home, Medicaid would pay, I am told.

Thanks

IF I am understanding your question correctly, you are asking what happens to a person in an A/L/F, when they run out of money. Whenever that happens, they will be eligible for MEDICAID Assistance, and transferred to a MEDICAID Bed............

That may or may not be in the same facility. Obviously the care will not be the same............................ Cal Lester CLU

The care may, in fact, be identical. Here in my town, the care is the same no matter who is paying.

I am sad to say that your TOWN appears to much more generous than most of South Florida. Traditionaly, when a nursing home transfers a paying patient to MEDICAID (maybe you were refering to medicare), for which they (the facility) receive a much lower daily rate, the service that they provide is of a lessor quality.
