What is my cost basis for tax purposes of my Agilent shares that I got from the spin-off from Hewlett-Packard? June 2, 2000, was the record date of the Agilent ...


A few moments of googlage finds this historical price page on their web site:

That doesn't tell John what his cost basis is since Agilent was a tax-free spinoff from HP. The correct answer is that 22% of his original cost basis in HP was allocated to the Agilent shares and 78% remained with the HP shares. See
