Working for tuition

Mar 09, 2005 1 Replies

If I am a student at a specialized school and I am receiving, on paper, $7.00 per hour towards my tuition for trolling forums and posting upbeat notices about the school:

1) Is this taxable income for me?
2) Should I be receiving something from the school?
3) Am I an employee of the school?
4) Should my school be keeping tax records about this arrangement?

Thanks for the help.

Yes.

A W-2 if you were an employee or a 1099-MISC if you were an independent contractor and the total amount they paid you in the year was at least $600.

Not enough facts present to make that determination but students that are hired by the school they attend are usually hired as part-time employees.

Absolutely.
