Am thinking of fixing at 5.5% for five years with Abbey.
Does this seem like a good idea?

First Active are doing 5.19% fixed for five years, but there may be other differences...

I should add that it's with my existing provider, so the arrangement fees etc. are minimal. Looking at other providers, I realised that I'd have to shell out an average of £800 for arrangement... at which I balked...

Depends on the size of the mortgage, if it's interest only or repayment, how you would define 'minimal' and how many years you are borrowing over......
