5yr Fixed Rate Mortgage

May 25, 2004 3 Replies

Hi all,

A bit of advice if possible. Could people tell me what the best 5yr fixed rate mortgages are at the moment ? Given the volatility in the market and imminent interest rate hike I can't imagine there are many great offers.

Cheers, Joe

Not sure *right at the moment*, but I remortgaged to a 5 year fixed back in March and I whittled down the contenders to Nationwide (who I eventually went with), the Skipton and the Alliance and Leicester (buy online, if you buy at one of their shops, they'll charge 600 arrangement fee). These were the cheapest 3 for me personally - for all the shouting the Cheltenham and Gloucester have done about paying all fees etc., I found them to be one of the more expensive options!

However, I did restrict my search to banks/building societies that had local offices - just a personal thing, if something goes awry I like to be able to shout at them face to face :-)

Cheers, Chris

Try the interweb thingy.... there's all sorts of useful information there!

has a mortgage comparison tool. I'd start with a few good rates then check the small print for tie-in periods and whether they allow for payment flexibility - if thats important to you.

Happy hunting.

Thanks Chris and Simon, it's put me on the right tracks.
