Bank account for 13 year old

Hi All I'm looking to open a bank account for my 13 year old daughter.

We don't live near any cash machines so she'll need to withdraw her money through a post office. I've rung most of the big banks & drawn a blank as their childrens accounts' cannot be accessed in this way.

Suggestions most appreciated

Thanks & have a good day Mike

Hi Peter

The post office card account is only for the withdrawl of benefits, pensions etc & the other advertised 'basic' bank accounts do not cater for under

18's. I've rung most of the high street banks & their under 18 accounts do not have the facility for post office withdrawls :(

thanks for the response ~ my search continues!

Mike

Ask the Post Office themselves. I know they handle Cahoot transactions, for one.

Having just been to the PO, I picked up a leaflet - there are 6 current accounts, 17 'basic bank accounts'* and the Post Office card account.

  • These mainly don't offer cheque or cash deposit

  1. This groups is for *anyone* to discuss finance matters relevant to the UK
  2. You obviously haven't come across the concept of free news servers

Not to forget point 1.5... bring physically somewhere else does not mean that someone is not from the UK.

So what happens to 16 and 17 year old school leavers that receive benefits? Do they HAVE to take them in cash only?

cheers
