Best credit card with cashback/rewards

With Halifax announcing that their credit card is moving from 1% cashback to a measly 0.25%, I'm looking around for a replacement. Can anyone tell me what the best buys are just now for a no annual fee visa/mastercard with cashback, ideally 0.5% or above.

I'm not bothered about the APR or transfer deals, as I have another card which can handle those.

many thanks

Capital One circles card - 1%, but rumoured to be reducing to 0.5% from

1/july.

Morgan Stanley Platinum - 1% on first 2k, 0.5% thereafter. Both the first two are M/card.

Amex Blue - 1% (for places which take amex .. some don't). 2% for first

3 months.

That should keep you going for a while.

Try the new John Lewis card, 1% cashback in JL/Waitrose and 0.5% elsewhere.

Accucard, EasyMoney, Morethan (all the same) can be configured for 0.8% cashback.

Not exactly visa or mastercard, but might worth attention. Amex platinum CC has 0.5% cashback for £2000 aggregate amount, 1% for £2001-5000 and 2% for £5001+. Great for shopping for groceries and petrol.

Potential drawbacks: it is not accepted by some smaller retailers, their phone service seems to be neither in the UK nor in the US of A.

On the subject of Amex not being accepted, one restaurant in Rome last week

*really* took the biscuit when they presented me with the bill in a nice leather folder with "American Express" clearly embossed in the leather. I put my card in the folder and handed it to the waiter only to be told "Sorry we do not accept that card". As you can imagine I was less than happy about leaving a tip!

It was only about 5 years ago that John Lewis still refused to accept credit cards in their stores.
