Sainsburys 0% card

Jun 18, 2004 7 Replies

Hi,

I signed up for the Sainsburys Internet 0% for 9 months interest deal yesterday, went through the online process and got accepted for the card. The paperwork came through today and, guess what, they have not given me the Internet card with 0% for 9 months card but the Platinum card which does not, from what I can make out on their website, include the deal.

So, I am currently on the telephone to them now and they are coming up with all sorts of excuses for not giving me the 0% for 9 months deal. They have tried to make out it is my credit rating... Oh, now they are saying that I do have the 0% deal but on their website it states the the Internet Special card - the 0% for 9 months deal - and their Platinum card are two different cards. You can even earn Nectar points on the latter but not the former so...

They are saying I should sign the credit agreement form they sent through and then, when I have done that, I will get the card and info telling me that I have the 0% deal... but that seems, IMPO, somewhat dubious.

I am feeling somewhat angry and somewhat conned.

A common ploy unfortunately...............almost all of the application forms (whether paper-based or internet) have a get-out whereby they say that if your application isn't successful they reserve the right to send you a different card with differing rates.

Chuck the paperwork away.

The trouble with this is that I have heard that each time you apply for a card it gets logged with experian & equifax. Lets say you have three 0% cards on the go at any one time, which have to be cancelled after each 6 month offer period expires, then this is fine in theory as you are only making an average of 3 applications in 6 months, well below the "danger level" of 6 applications over a 6 month period.

Now lets say that 50% of all aplications end up like the OP where they give you a card you don't want - this means that just to keep your three 0% deals on the go you could easily end up having to make 6 applications every 6 months rather than just 3 which could end up denting your credit rating.

I have two 0% deals which end very soon, but I need to find out which providers are less likely to "bump" me onto an unwanted *non-0%* card??

Without a hint of irony, "Adrian Boliston" astounded uk.finance on 18 Jun 2004 by announcing:

I don't get this bit. Why would they need to conduct *another* search? They already have the information they need, and you haven't given them your permission to do a second search.

I have a Sainsbury's platinum card with 0% for 9 months.

If you don't get the card you want, then you need to apply somewhere else that might give you what you are looking for. That somewhere else will carry out the second search.

Interesting Jane... and baffling...

I understand that second searches are often carried out *without* a "second" permission - (presumably) just relying on the original permission to search ...
