Halifax have a wonderful card offer too :-)

Halifax advertised a credit card deal for September. 0% on credit transfers AND purchase balances for 9 months.

I was ecstatic, so I applied for one. I was accepted. The terms and conditions they enclosed confirmed the above plus 0% on balances due to cash advances and cheque transactions. WOW.

You have to phone a freephone number to activate the card. I phoned the number. The nicely spoken lady says that I can transfer balances from other cards and get free credit for 9 months. I say "And on purchases, of course". She says "Oh no, you have a cashback card, and purchases do not count on those". I say "WHAT??????????????"

I still say "WHAT??????????????????????". Had it not flashed through my mind to comment on what she had said, which I might well not have done, and which most people probably wouldn't have done, I could have run up large charges.

Maybe its a one off mistake. Maybe it is not. Anyone else had this experience?

I don't see how - if they had added any interest, you simply refer them to the T&C as provided. If they still don't remove the interest, they can pay the court costs too after you show the T&C as evidence in county court.... :-)

Hmmm, I suspect a troll.

I've got the card, it's perfectly clear in the t&c's, 0% on everything "for the first 9 months after you have opened the account".

You're either trolling or they're trying to stitch you up.

Or make the purchases on the other card and transfer the balance.

You're lucky to have even received it - I have been waiting nearly 6 weeks for mine and they have only just sent the forms to sign. I was under the impression that it was only balance transfers that were interest free - I got the platinum one without the cashback. It's only purpose is to shift the balance off my egg for 9 months.

Can one transfer balances on a monthly basis, however? My assumption was that this was something you do at the start of the 9 months and that's it.

You can transfer as often as you want, although some cards specify a minimum amount that they will transfer. Assuming you initially transfer the full credit limit and you repay the minimum amount each month you will gradually build up spare capacity on your credit limit.

I suppose you could transfer the same amount as you pay off each month so as to get the full benefit of your entire credit limit.

That is very "interesting". I cannot ask for a transfer up to anything like the credit limit since I always pay off my card in full each month - a habit I intend to stop, if I can profit from it.

Do you have any knowledge suggesting what is the best time to transfer the credit. By which I mean (regarding the card to which I originally owed the money) (and given that debits are occur on a semi-random basis in time) :-

a) If a statement has been created, do they reduce the statement amount by the requested transfer, or do subsequent transactions get reduced first so that some money will still be owing in the current month? b) What happens if the requested transfer should happen to be greater than the instantaneous amount owing? c) Is there a delay between requesting the transfer, and its implementation, which might impinge upon a) and b)?

The above will be easier to follow if, as is currently the case, if the status of the account can be viewed online. This may not always be so, of course.

If what you say is true, which I assume it is, I am encouraged to assume that much larger fictional "indebtedness" can be created much more rapidly than I had anticipated :-)
