Where's the best place to put 50000 pounds at the moment? Want quick access (within a few days) and secure, i.e. an interest bearing bank or BS account.

Best instant access interest rate for 50000 pounds at present?

Its going to change every few days from now for the next month or two as various Banks/BS put up rates since The Bank did.
Also split it into 2 chunks so that it is covered by the government scheme (max coverage 33k) just in case the place where you put it goes belly up.

Please will you explain this further? Do the 'chunks' have to be with different banks/building_societies?

Yes, different banks/Bs's not different accounts with the same Bank/BS
and the limit is 35k not 33 k - sorry.
