Cheapest certificated share sale?

Advice please on cheapest/best broker for selling

500 Abbey National shares with paper certificates. (Value ATM nearly £3K)

This is a one-time sale so I don't *need* an ongoing registration or nominee account or such like.

If I read their site right, Abbey charge about £39 for the privilege - but the cheap execution-only services I have looked at appear to be nominee accts.

This is exactly right. They buy (and sell) your shares cheaply and then make up what they have lost by charging you a management fee.

Many nominee accounts do not charge any management fee at all.

For instance, the original poster could open a dealing account at Comdirect who do not charge any management or inactivity fees at all for their dealing account.

After opening the account he would simply send them the Abbey share certificate and Comdirect will put it into his nominee account - he can then sell it for Comdirect's standard dealing fee of 12.50 and transfer the money to his bank account.

if the account is never used again there is no further fee...

In fact the original poster could also get an addiitonal 50 from Comdirect for joining, if he is referred by an existing member (who gets something as well) - Len if you are interested, send me an email and I will be quite quite happy to do this for you.

Then the OP should use them if he wants to have a long term nominee account and the suit his needs.

If on the other had, he wants to do this as a one off and get the 50 at the same time... - effectively making a profit on the transaction. - he should use Comdirect.

Yes, it's Lloyds Registrars. Do you know their fees?

The Shareview FAQ says both:

and

But it seems you must first Register in order to be able to Logon and find out their fees - DOH!

Meanwhile, I am following up Sunil's Comdirect offer. Thanks, Sunil!

Aim for a 10 fee. You shouldn't have too much difficulty finding someone who will sell certificates, but I only found one who buys shares and gets you a certificate for under 10. They are
