When my parents divorced in October 1977, my mother was awarded maintenance from my father, to care for the three children, of 7 per week, per child until we each reached 17 The last to reach 17 did so in March 1987. In relative terms (taking account of inflation, interest rates, etc), what would 7 be equivalent to now?
During the period October 1977 to March 1987, the amount of maintenance never changed (ie, it was always 7 a week right up to the end). If the maintenance paid kept pace with inflation, how much would the last payment have been?
