Duplicated EDC Settlement and Multiple EDC Batch Numbers from the same Batch

We had a problem in RMS 2.0 with our EDC batch Settling twice on two different occasions last week. I know it's not possible to settle an EDC batch after it has been settled already in RMS 2.0 but it happened. Has anybody else experienced the same problem or could tell me how to avoid this from happening again? We do have a stable reliable and redundant Internet connections so I've ruled this out.

Also when we settle the EDC batch (every night) I get several EDC Batch numbers within the same batch when looking at the EDC Report, even though our CC processor only shows one batch. We usually have the same EDC batch number for about 90-95% of our transactions and the remaining % divided over two or 3 other EDC batch numbers even though we only batch once per day. Is anybody else experiencing this or does anybody else know why this happens?

Just to be clear, it does not sound like you have transactions settleing twice but you have multiple batch numbers with in one settlement request. If this is correct the number of transactions per batch is configurable. The default number of transactions with-in a batch is 100. You can change the batch size in the Administrator configuration window in the EDC tab under advanced options.

As mentioned in my original post we have two issues/problems.

The duplicated EDC Settlement has turned out, after tedious investigating and numerous phone call to our processor as well as Vital Support, to be a Vital glitch. It was caused by a Vital upgrade (on their end) and has affected some merchants, but has since been corrected.

This still leaves me with the issue of multiple EDC batch numbers as stated in my original post. From day 1 I've had the batch size set to the maximum (9999) so this shouldn't be the reason for 3 or 4 EDC batch numbers per "batch". What else could cause each batch to have several batch numbers? We usually have less than 180 or so transactions per daily batch.

What are the disadvantages of setting the batch size to 9999? Why does it default to 100? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of leaving at

100? What number does everybody else set their batch size to?
