RMS for Credit Card vs PC Charge Pro and Con?

We have been using PC Charge for about 4 years, but our new VAR has mention Microsoft has improve the built-in credit card option. I am researching the Pro and Con of the two systems.

Has any one move from PC Charge to using Microsoft RMS built-in credit card option? Did you encounter any problem? Or have to do things any different than when you was using PC Charge?

We have been running the integrated RMS CC software all along and it has proven very reliable, even in an environment where user error causes 90% of the problems. We went with Citibank and now 1st Data has taken over, but apparently a security upgrade is on the way. 1st Data said they are reviewing how to address the new security standards (address, zip and/or CVV code verification) that are not available on RMS(at least on v1.2 that we run).

So, I can say for now MS did a very good job, I hope that the stability stays with the future security upgrades. We never wanted to go the route of PC charge because of the additional software, simple is always more stable.

Chris,

With most of your error being user related, how to you go about the process of fixing those errors? I know I how to locate and fix them with the PC Charge software.

Ed,

Well, a few times we had to credit back customers for overcharges (the employee charged them for too many items) and the customer was no longer present. That was when we were able to see unmasked credit card numbers. Now, the security has changed and the numbers are masked.

What errors do you usually have to fix? That might help me answer your questions.

Chris,

I will have locations that seem to butcher try to fix their mistake and the customer getting charge two or three time. I don't hear about it till the customer get their statement about 30 to 45 days later. In PCCharge, I can do a search by their Credit card number and/or amount to location them all together to better determine what the cashier did. Does RMS allow back tracking to get the customer their credits?

How do you fix error in RMS that are not current day transaciton? If you did a Post Void would you need the complete Credit card be able to give them credit back.

Some stores will not settle out for days with their credit cards. Does RMS have a limit on how many days before settlement? We have solved this from being more than a few days by having the closing manager to call in the batch settlement number with PCCharge. Will RMS provide the store with a settlement batch number also? Does RMS settle automatic or require the manager to go into RMS Manager to settle out at end of day?
