Does everybody try to pass the buck?

I get letters from Business Internet Directory they are trying to get people to call a 0844 number. Their letter says: "Call from BT landlines cost up to 4p per minute" I go to a website of an 0844 provider and they say the charge is 5p + VAT I contact Trading Standards - they say contact Ofcom I contact Ofcom - they say charges are up to 5p per minute but I have to contact Advertising Standards Authority I ask if the 5p is before or after VAT - Ofcom say I need to ask HMRC! We seem to have more and more organisations trying to do less and less work.

Regulatory "authorities" in all business sectors are a complete joke it seems.

I called BT and they told me the charge would be 4p including VAT (first she said £4 but I think she was based on the moon or at least somewhere a long way away!). The biggest joke are the police. I'm sure they have a manual of excuses. I managed to note down a registration number of a van after it dumped a load of rubbish in a car park and when I wanted to give it to the police they said they couldn't do anything unless I had a description of the driver. Another person tried to obtain money from me by deception but when I told the police they said no crime was committed because they didn't succeed! I complained about dangerous driving and I reported it to the police. I knew cameras had recorded the incident. The incident happened on the boundary of two police districts and they kept passing the file to each other until the tapes were wiped! I hope Boris Johnson gets rid of all the lazy sods.

There are various charges depending on the digits after the 0844, so asking for the charge for 0844 is like asking how long is a piece of string. For the nerdy see:-

You will soon giv up, when you see the list, however for the price you will have to look up the tariff. . Much easier is to use

and key in the full number. The display includes the operator, the price and the tariff band.
