Esate Agents style details - Bit off topic

Sorry if off topic but I need to produce A4 & A3 promotional details for my business. The details are mostly text but between four and twelve photographs. I need to print of batches of ten from around 100 variations.

I have investigated colour laser printers but find them poor with photographs and purchase price at a very min 1,000. Inkjets out of the question as we need to print quickly at the end of each day and they do not dry fast enough and costs are prohibitive.

I have found one company who does these type of print runs for Estate Agents but feel their minimum order may be too high.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Len,

I am an estate agent and use a Minolta QMS 2200 Desklaser for our details, and I find the pictures to be excellent, provided that the .jpg files are good in the first place. Only A4 unfortunately.

We used to use an old digital camera, but have replaced it with a Minolta Dimage 7i, and the difference is tremendous. Also, the type of paper has a bearing. We now use 100gsm, whereas we used to use 80gsm.

Clearly, you probably wont get professional printer quality but, in terms of convenience, it may be worth persevering.

Alternatively, it may be worth having a standard presentation produced professionally, with a facility for inserts produced in-house?

Good Luck

Thanks for that.

I have been using a Kodak 280 digital camera but which I am looking at replacing - am absolute minefield of options. I have been looking into most laser printers but not Minolta QMS so will now add to my list.

I know I will have to sacrifice some of the quality as compared to professional printing but there advantages with less waste, being able to print one offs and the convenience. However the possible higher costs of replacing toner is a worry. Do you have any idea of the cost of a set of your A4 details and what percentage surface area you have of photos.

Thanks

If it helps. when I'm selecting computer products I generally turn to PC Magazine

formatting link
which produces the most authoritative reviews imo.

I got the Minolta second hand for £400 about 4 months ago, (ebay), and, as I said, the difference is incredible. Photos now look like photos, with sharp edges etc.

I dont know the cost of each page as I dont keep a record of number printed versus costs. I just do it, and pay it, because the alternative is mega inconvenient.

Reading reviews recently, there seem to be better printers than Minolta

- QMS, and you are also looking at A3.

I think you will see a quality difference with a better camera with more megapixels.

Good Luck
