Factors affecting house prices

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right newsgroup for such a question, but here goes... Is there a source somewhere that breaks down the factors affecting house prices in a particular area? I'm asking because I want to build up a case for maintaining our village school and nursery. The local parish council don't seem that interested in supporting us. This may have something to do with the fact that none of them have children young enough to be affected. I wonder if appealing to their better nature (i.e. money) may have an effect. E.g. having a good school in the village boosts house prices by 10%, etc.

Any suggestions?

I haven't heard of any - it might be too difficult to separate the other factors out, it's difficult enough predicting house prices as it is. You could get consensus opinions from estate agents, but that's hardly credible.

What OFSTED rating does the school have ?

Are there any school preservation societies that can help ?

The Rowntree Foundation may be able to help as it publishes housing related research, also the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM)

Speak to some local estate agents who'll be able to point out areas with the better schools commanding a better price.

Apparently they're not very busy at the moment. :)

Why don't they seem interested in supporting it? Start attending as many meetings as possible all the way up the education chain.

A school near where I used to live was shut and it was a done decision. There was very little discussion about the issue.

Isn't tony looking at transport for school children (Its bad for them! There is I'm sure a report out somewhere about it)

Also try organisations like this:

Good luck and shout if you need 'owt

Both the school and pre-school have good reports. They are not actively trying to close us down, just blocking us every time we want to do anything. We attended their parish council meeting and invited them to attend our pre-school committee meeting. They declined on the grounds they couldn't be independent (on the grounds they didn't want to support us in any way - their words)
