Finding someone, how?

What's the easiest (and cheapest) method to locate someone either their home address or employer (no wise answers like the telephone directory!). I have his full name, NI number, bank account number and sort-code, tax code. Does any of this help?

Thanks in anticipation.

Electoral roll? You would need a rough idea where he lives, I suppose, and the address of his bank branch might provide a clue, unless you have reason to believe he retained the account after moving from the area.

Depends. Why do you need to contact him? Does he owe you money? You may be able to write to him care of his bank branch. They won't divulge his address, but should pass on any communication especially if given a valid reason. You may, if necessary, be able to obtain a court order to compel them at least to pass on a message or even to divulge the address (perhaps not to you, but to the court itself) to enable you to bring proceedings against him.

Uk Info disc is the way to go.

Should be able to find out branch from this info, any bank could. Of course, they won't tell you address without court order and he may not even live near the bank

or buy searches on their web site

I wouldn't 'pay' for any of their searches, their information is seriously unreliable and out-of-date - only use it for guidance!

(I'm shown as living at an address I left 3 years ago, and a friend has his entire street merged with another of the same name 5 miles away

- so his house shows 4 occupants, his neighbour 8 etc - the other street shows nobody living in any of the houses!)

directory!).

He owes money. I would guess he isn't on the electoral roll. I know which city he lives in and the above information (even which empolyment agency he is currently registered and working for - but they won't help).

Ring the agency and ask to hire 'Dave', say he was recommended by someone else, and could he report to 'xyz' for work. When he turns up - bingo. (they may well say 'Sorry,he's at ABC LTd this week', and you can catch him there) Or say you are from "XYZ and think Dave left a wallet behind a few weeks back, could they give you a number for him or ask him to call you"

Quite often you can catch people out in ways like this - reverse logic like saying "I know you won't be able to give me his mobile number, but I need to return this wallet" will result in the dizzy little receptionist saying "I'm sure it'll be OK if I give you his number in this case"

If its a day-at-a-time manual-labour type agency, the workers have to hand in their signed timesheets once a week and collect their wages in cash - see if you can find out what day it is. (if its long term work or clerical etc - these probably do it by post/bank so no good.)

Might be worth suing him (using small claims procedure if the amount is small enough) and serving papers care of his bank. There is somehere you can look up branch addresses from sort code. Ask at your local court for advice, or perhaps CAB.

It might not be possible, it was just a thought, but worth investigating.
