Is there a good book for information on how to deal in shares from a UK perspective? Amazon seems full of books from a US perspective but they somehow don't seem relevant to how you can buy and sell shares here in the UK - or is there a good US book that someone can recommend - unless you intend to use someone like ComDirect to invest in the NASDAQ, S&P500, etc.?
Also, can anyone recommend a good read on the recent share bubble - I am looking for something that is an informative yet entertaining account of the late 90s' tech bubble.
So are you John Smith or John Smith, or a completely new John Smith? :)
What do you mean by "deal in shares"? The basic ideas about how shares work and how to invest aren't much different between the US and the UK, so presumably you are talking about more technical aspects, but what kind - how to choose a broker? How the London Stock Exchange works? The ISA rules? The tax system? For a lot of those things you don't really need a book (although they exist), web sites probably do as well. Also it depends hugely on what kind of investing you have in mind, day trading with Contracts For Difference is a world away from buy-and-hold investing.
No doubt many are being written at this very moment :) Here's one which springs to mind:
