House - equity share

Aug 27, 2006 1 Replies

Hi guys,

Can anyone point me to a good source of the tax treatment of a potential equity share for a house purchase?

My father and myself wish to share the mortgage/deposit/repair/restoration costs of a property that would act as my PPR. I intend to live there for several years and it would be "my" first home. Day to day living cost, insurance, utilities etc would be my responsibility.

The main idea behind it is I can then live in a much better house, in a better area with greater potential for capital growth for either resale or possibly occupation by my parents as their retirement home.

Mainly after tax status information and charges that may be due.

Thanks

Can you take a bit more care in explaining what your plan is? You've only talked about purchasing a house. You may pay stamp duty. There may be capital gains tax payable unless it's classed as your PPR but your father will not have it as his PPR unless he lives there.
