How much can I borrow???

Aug 23, 2005 5 Replies

I'm looking to take out a mortgage shortly and was wandering if there was a website that could tell me how much a variety of lenders would lend me ??????? This would be much quicker thatn using the Mortgage calculators on individual providers websites.

TIA

I'm not aware of one, others may be able to point you in the right direction.

The maximums tend to be in the 4.2 to 5 times income bracket depending upon income and other card/loan debt. I know of one that does up to 8 times, but that's just irresponsible.

Search the web or phonebook for an independent intermediary and talk it through, armed with the right details they should be able to tell you which comapnies and amounts are available pretty much straigh away.

Regards,

Matt.

Thanks for your reply, I thought there would be more replies to be honest!!!!! Which one is it that offers up to 8 times that ridiculous!!!! In your experience who would lend the most I would be looking for around 4.5 to 5 times my income.

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

TIA

From what I've seen recently

First national - up to 8 times C&G - up to 5 times Abbey - up to 5 times Halifax - up to 5 times Northern Rock - sometimes just over 5 times Some companies - as much as you want to lie about your earnings, but please don't do it, a repossession or mortgage arrears can royally screw you up

These are for clients that fit the lenders criteria perfectly - so don't take them as a done deal.

Be aware that Charcolonline are not Independent Mortgage Brokers.
