These days of course the money-laundering police would be round at the speed of sound as soon as the computer reported the arrival of a few hundred k£ in used tenners, even if the next transaction made them go away again... 8>.

Sorry, Penn & whatsisname doesn't mean anything to me, I must be too young. :-) I won't swear to it but I'm sure I've seen "teller" used here and not just in American films. Nowadays of course they're neither tellers nor cashiers but customer service officers.

I like it.

Might depend on the bank. My account is in Blackpool, my father in law has his a few miles south of there. He can go into any branch and transfer money from his account to mine and its there straightaway. Doesn't have to be same branch, just same overall bank when its Lloyds TSB.

Im in Blackpool too. You are right that some banks are allowing truncated credits for cash transactions only on an-inter branch basis. Also, many banks have now combined the back office function of a number of branches so that so long as your branch is in the same 'group' as the other, it is same day.

I have always thought this was the smart way to do it because as you say you get paid in cash without taking any security risk. Why do you say the other guy has to bank at the same bank as you though? Assuming he banks with a clearer, can't you just go to his bank, he withdraws the cash and then you pay it into your bank account? It will take a few days for you to get the money but at least you know you will.

The cash route is better IMHO - there's a buyer here who may take a suspicious view of having to hand over his wedge before he gets his car.

Sadly almost all the participants in that wonderful series are now dead, and today alleged 'comedians' don't seem to be able to progress beyond crudity and slapstick.
