ps I have not be given £50k today :-)

The first £500 should go on the mattress.

Get out of sterling and into something more solid like Zimbabwean dollars.

Toom

I'd spend it on finishing my house.

:-) Even gold is "not an option" as cost is up up up...

Well if things carry on like this I'll be able to buy a house for £50k soon.

You can now - one went locally at auction for rather less than that. OK, it did need work doing to it, but the local builder I talked to said that he simply couldn't raise the dosh to buy properties to do up and sell, at the moment - he was only doing small jobs with no cash flow implications.

I know. I bought mine for £1875.

Seriously, my mate George is having to sell his bungalow to move into a secure/ sheltered apartment close to his son.

He told me yesterday that he has offered £85,000 for one of the apartments, which were selling at around £120,000 when I looked about 12 months ago.

Yes amazing isn't it, Feel sorry for the people stuck the the neg. equity trap. "For Rent" signs popping up all over the place. I bet soon it'll be a problem getting tenants! Buy to rent is certainly making a comback - but many of the cheaper apartment/flats don't have much time left on the leashold (30 years) - make's it very difficult to sell later. So not a good investment(?) even though the price, now, may be "right".
