Insurance replacing laptop q

If a latop is 18 months old and that size screen isn't available do they have to offer the next size up?

(It was a 16.1" screen)

We've got a man from pc world apparently going to be ringing us soon. Not where I'd chose to get stuff from.

Oh and do you get a reciept equivalent in the process?

All thoughts welcome!

Is there a next size up from 16.1", and would you want to carry it around?

There is. Its 17"

They've rung today and offered 15.4" and a lower spec generally. When I pointed out that the one that they're replacing had a 16.1" screen she said she wasn't aware of that and said she'd have to get it reevaluated. I had assumed they would have some specs of what they're replacing rather than just making it up but it appears not so to start with.

I think what I'm worried about is them offering a much lower spec laptop and saying its that or nothing. It is new for old cover but I have no idea how this works with laptops & computer equipment.

As with anything, you are entitled to be put back in the position you were in before it went wrong. If they cannot repair it, they must supply a replacement of equivalent or better specification.

Generally speaking, with New for Old, the item is replaced with an item equal to, but not better than when new. If an exact replacement is not available you can ask for a better specification but be prepared to pay the negotiated difference in price. The intention is to put you in a similar financial standing -subject to the policy wording (not indemnity) as New for old- and not to make a profit or benefit from the loss.
