Investing in European shares

Jul 23, 2005 1 Replies

A quick search of this group didn't yield any recent posts, so I'm posting this question: How does one go about buying/selling European shares? Do UK-based brokers deal in European shares? Are there any tax/legal issues to be aware of?

I understand that in addition to normal risk associated with equity investment, I'd need to factor in exchange rate movements as well. Any other influences to watch out for?

TIA.

Probably the easiest way would be via a unit trust or investment trust. As anyone who didn't sell their Abbey shares will be finding out, they will now have the jolly fun of filling out tax forms for their Spanish income. So remember what they were saying at Abbey National last year: Nobody expects a Spanish acquisition.
